Pond Treatment Dosing Guide

Enter your gallons to see the dose and how to use each product we carry. Rates come from each maker’s published directions. If we couldn’t confirm a rate, we say follow the label. Your label always wins.

How do I dose pond treatments by gallons?

Find your pond’s gallons first, then use the rate on the product label. Type your gallons below and this guide works out each product’s dose for you and shows how to add it. If you’re not sure of your gallons, use the lower number, and the label always wins if it differs.

Safety first

  • Measure your gallons. If unsure, dose for the lower number. Never go over the label.
  • One product at a time. Don’t mix treatments unless both labels allow it.
  • Run your pump, waterfall and any aerator nonstop with algae treatments and pH changes, especially in summer heat.
  • Change pH slowly (about 0.2–0.3 a day), and fix KH first.
  • Fish medicines: remove carbon and turn off UV if the label says to. Some algae products aren’t safe for snails, shrimp or other crustaceans.
  • Salt can hurt some plants and doesn’t evaporate. Don’t add salt when topping off.
  • Retest ammonia and nitrite in 24 hours, pH and KH the next day, and everything in a week.
  • Keep all products away from kids and pets.
